What is a Fit Model? A fit&nbsp;model is a person who assists in the garment making process by allowing the&nbsp;fashion designer, pattern maker or clothing manufacturer to check the fit, drape and visual appearance of a garment&nbsp;on a &#39;real&#39; human being, effectively acting as a live mannequin. A fit model must comment on the feel of fabric, fit, function&nbsp;and movement in every garment they try on. Fit models are typically the only people&nbsp;to wear a piece of clothing until the factory production process is complete and&nbsp;thousands of&nbsp;pieces end up in brick-and-mortar stores&nbsp;or online shopping hubs. If the model does not let a designer know of a fit issue, the item&nbsp;can become a “bad seller” and initiate returned garments. The process of fitting on a live model is crucial in the fashion industry,&nbsp;making fit models a&nbsp;vital component of a&nbsp;successful clothing line. What makes a great Fit Model? A fit model is typically someone with&nbsp;proportionate&nbsp;body measurements (think same size&nbsp;top and bottom). Height&nbsp;range for female models: 5&#39;6&quot;-5&#39;9&quot;, male models: 5&#39;11&quot;-6&#39;1&quot;.&nbsp;Their body should represent an average customer. Extremely slim, muscular/athletic&nbsp;or&nbsp;curvy models might not make the best fit models, however there plenty of other avenues in the industry they would be fantastic for!&nbsp;Fit models range in sizes from 2-4x, as long as they stay within the range&nbsp;of the clients base size which they fit&nbsp;the garments on. This&nbsp;could be anywhere from small to 2x. Professional fit models will have to stay consistent&nbsp;with their measurements day in and day out. They will be measured for every casting and usually quarterly or monthly for consistent clients.&nbsp;The best fit models will have&nbsp;a background in design or garment manufacturing. Knowledge of&nbsp;fabric, sewing construction and design are great ways to give your clients educated and valuable&nbsp;fit comments! How do Fit Models book a job and what happens at a casting? It all comes down to measurements,&nbsp;an exact match to be precise! If a client is looking for a size 4:&nbsp;bust: 34&quot;&nbsp;waist: 27&quot; hip: 37.5&quot;, then the model they choose needs to measure within a quarter or half inch of these measurements. If chosen for a casting, you will show up in leggings, standard&nbsp;t-shirt bra (no sports, strapless or pasties) and a fitted top for easy measuring. The client will measure you, try garments&nbsp;on and ask &quot;how does it feel?&quot; This is you&#39;re time to shine! Give accurate,&nbsp;knowledgeable&nbsp;fit comments so client can assess you&#39;re experience&nbsp;and possibly&nbsp;note your previous&nbsp;clients.&nbsp; Booked! If you&nbsp;hit the requested measurements and the client loved the way your physique&nbsp;looked in their clothing, then congrats: you will be booked for future fittings!&nbsp;Fittings can take anywhere&nbsp;from an hour to a full 8 hour day depending on your clients needs and their garment flow. Fittings can also be multiple times a week to create a&nbsp;reoccurring&nbsp;schedule with your client. Some models have been with their clients every week for over 7&nbsp;years! That&#39;s why we take the time to highlight and feature our models in Spotlight on Talent. One of our favorite and long time roster models is Alia P. She is an experienced veteran of the fit modeling industry with many name brand clients on her resume. How long have you been modeling and acting? 7 years&nbsp; How did you get into the world of modeling/acting? I was working as a Graphic Designer in a Fashion Company and they asked me to try on their samples occasionally. I did not know that that was a job that I could get paid for! I left that job and became a Fit Model full time. I have never looked back, this career is vey fun and rewarding and I would love to do it everyday for the rest of my life. What are your career goals? One of the main things I love about being a Plus Size Fit Model, is getting to work with a client who is new to working on plus size clothing. I truly feel like I am making a difference when I help these companies get their plus size line to fit well and then I see the garments in the store and other women my size or bigger love them. I feel like I have had a part in helping these other women with their confidence and helping the fashion world with their plus size inclusivity. Whats your biggest acting/modeling career accomplishment so far? I have one print job in portfolio, for now, but it was for a brand that was established to create a healthy plant based nutrition alternatives for those with dietary restrictions. As a plus size model, I understand that many individuals and the mainstream media frown on others who are plus size, but with this company I felt seen and appreciated and not looked down upon for my body shape. Hobbies or special skills that you&#39;re passionate about? I love to make costumes! I go to at least one to two conventions every year and build costumes to go with the convention&#39;s theme. Being a fit model has actually helped me become a better costumer! I&#39;m not the best sewer, but the fitting tips and tricks I learned in the industry has helped me in my everyday life. Whats a rally, local protest or social issue you are passionate about? Women&#39;s Rights 1000% &quot;Not Your Body, Not Your Business&quot; What&#39;s favorite part about fit modeling? I love the variety of fit modeling. Every single day is different and that is the main thing I love about my job. I don&#39;t even want to call it a job. I am never bored! I have gotten to work in almost every single niche of the fashion industry: casual wear, swimwear, boutique lifestyle, bridal, bras and intimates, athletic wear, and more and I can&#39;t wait to work with new clients! Everyday is an adventure. What are your top three fit modeling tips? <div style="caret-color: #222222; color: #222222;">For Fit Modeling, I would recommend these tips:</div><div style="caret-color: #222222; color: #222222;">1: Stay on top of your calendar. That is your number one tool! Clients love a model who is always on time.</div><div style="caret-color: #222222; color: #222222;">2: If you only want to carry a few things with you, it should be a measuring tape, your heels, and a comfy pair of shoes you can stand in for a long time and can slip off and on really quick.</div><div style="caret-color: #222222; color: #222222;">3: The clients want you to be happy and like what you try on. You are their sample customer; you should put yourself into the mindset of the customer when you give your feedback.</div> We love having Alia on our roster!
